Reach Home --
3 Br Oceanfront Vacation Rental, Sedgwick
On the famous sailing lanes of Eggemoggin Reach,
overlooking Deer Isle
“Reach Home” is a cozy and romantic
cottage on the ocean, with a secluded sand and boulder beach (no mud
flats), in a small sunny clearing, surrounded by sun-speckled forest and
ocean vistas beyond. It’s on the famous sailing lanes of Eggemoggin
Reach, overlooking Deer Isle. The property is perfectly situated to
take advantage of the wide-ranging activities of Deer Isle and the Blue
Hill Peninsula. Located in Sargentville (Sedgwick), the guests will be
near everything, but can return to this quiet, peaceful “home” when the
day is done. They will hear sounds of nature from the cottage (lapping
water, loons, gulls, deer, red squirrels, chipmunks, and ducks for a
start), but within a short distance are Stonington, Blue Hill, Castine
and Ellsworth, with Bangor, Acadia, and Bar Harbor roughly an hour’s
pleasant drive away. Secluded, but right in the center of everything!
Two Living Areas
The approach is on a sandy road called
“Ferry Landing Road”, which was once the way to the ferry crossings that
provided the primary access from the mainland to the large island of Deer
Isle, but once the lovely Deer Isle suspension bridge was built nearby, in
1937, the road became a very quiet country lane, and Greens Way is the only
lane branching from it. At the end of Greens Way is the charming
semi-secluded cottage that is very close to the water, so there are
beautiful views of the ocean and trees, through huge picture windows all
around. You can see something pretty from every room—through some trees,
you can even see the Deer Isle Suspension Bridge in the distance. Most days
a majestic schooner or two will float by, under full sail!

The interior of “Reach Home” exudes a
natural warmth and coziness. It is done in a traditional Maine style, with
an open floor plan. There are two living areas, and 3 spacious bedrooms. A
working brick fireplace and cathedral ceilings with cross beams give the
cottage a rustic look of Old Maine, and the house is tastefully adorned with
Maine collectibles and notable art work by the owner. Lots of books, and
toys & games for the kids are here for everyone’s pleasure. Warm fires and
conversation can be enjoyed from all of the main living areas, including the
open dining room and kitchen, or one can step out the sliding glass doors
and enjoy the new wraparound cedar deck. There is also a picnic table
overlooking the water.
This cottage is a refuge or a
centrally located home base, but either way, it’s a good Maine experience.
